Accommodation would be with a local family; this will give you a un-presidented insight to how people live within the community. Volunteers normally live in a rondavel which is thatched circular building which is alot cooler inside than out. It is a typical form of Venda dwelling and has proven it's self as a very practical form of accommodation.
During the week volunteers eat with the family, the staple is pap (stiff porridge) with a variety of vegetables and more often than not chicken. Depending on how adventurous you are the other local staple foods include mopane worms, chicken feet and heads (walkie talkies) and various wild plants.
Locals still forage a lot for their food, but for you, we will provided a more balanced diet. If you have any particular requirements such as vegetarian then would we most definitely cater for your needs.
On Fridays there is usually a braai, then maybe a couple of drinks at the local shebeen followed by star gazing.
